HOW TO DRAPE A GEORGETTE SAREE SO IT STAYS PUT ALL DAY

Georgette is the most forgiving saree fabric there is — light, fluid, and happy to fall into place. But "forgiving" is not "automatic". These are the steps and habits that keep a georgette drape looking fresh through a full day of functions. Start with the right base A well-fitted petticoat does half the draping for you. For georgette, choose a smooth-fabric petticoat pulled snug at the waist — the saree's fall depends entirely on what sits under it. A loose petticoat makes even expensive georgette bunch at the ankles. Set the pleats with your fingers, not pins Tuck the first round firm and flat, slightly below the navel. Georgette is light enough that one clean tuck holds. Pleat 5–7 folds, each about a hand's width, running the fabric between thumb and fingers so the edges align. Georgette holds a crease briefly — use that. Tuck the pleats pointing left, slightly away from centre, so they open towards the pallu when you walk. Pin the pleats to the petticoat at the waist, hidden inside the topmost fold. One pin is usually enough; georgette doesn't need the scaffolding heavier fabrics do. The pallu: pleat it narrow, pin it once A wide, stiff pallu is what drags most sarees out of shape. Pleat the georgette pallu into narrow folds, pin it at the shoulder to your blouse strap (not the fabric of the shoulder — the strap takes the weight), and let the rest fall. If the function involves sitting on the floor, take the pallu into a single drape across the front instead. The three habits that keep it fresh Re-set the pleats once after the first hour. Fabric settles as your body warms it; a thirty-second reset at that point keeps the drape true for the rest of the day. Carry two spare pins, not ten. Over-pinning is what makes georgette pucker. Sit, then arrange. Smooth the pleats down as you sit rather than pulling the saree around afterwards. That's genuinely all there is to it — georgette rewards a light touch.
