WEDDING SEASON PACKING LIST: A SAREE FOR EVERY FUNCTION
28 Aug 2026
An Indian wedding week is really four or five dress codes wearing one invitation. Here is how to plan a saree wardrobe that covers every function without repeating a drape.
Mehendi: light, breathable, nothing precious
You will sit for hours with henna drying on your hands, likely outdoors, likely in the sun. This is the function for plain cotton or light georgette — nothing with sequins that catch, nothing you'll mourn if mehendi stains it. Half-saree and pre-draped styles earn their keep here.
Haldi: the one you can wash
Everything you wear to haldi will meet turmeric. Choose a plain, washable cotton in yellow-adjacent shades, and keep the embellishment at zero. This is deliberately the most disposable drape of the week.
Sangeet: movement and shimmer
Sangeet is the night sarees are made for — but you'll also be dancing. Georgette with sequin or mirror borders is the sweet spot: the fabric moves, the work catches stage light, and the drape survives a full evening. Net works too, layered over a fitted skirt. Pin the pallu properly and it will hold through every song.
The ceremony: the statement drape
The main wedding ceremony calls for the heaviest saree you own — rich borders, zari work, brocade weight. This is the wedding edit's home ground. Ceremony sarees can afford weight because you're mostly seated and photographed; heavier fabrics also photograph with the most presence under mixed lighting.
Reception: the evening show
Reception is sangeet's more formal sibling — satin and net, deeper colours, jewellery-forward. Satin's lustrous fall reads "evening" like nothing else under banquet lighting, which is why fancy satin is a reception staple.
How to do it all without repeating
Vary the fabric, not just the colour. Cotton, georgette, net and satin read as completely different outfits even in a similar palette.
Rotate the blouse. The unstitched blouse piece every saree arrives with is your styling lever — a contrast blouse turns one drape into two looks.
Build a rotation, not a collection. Five well-chosen sarees cover a full wedding season; the trending edit shows what's moving this season, and under ₹999 pieces round out the roster without stretching the budget.
Every saree in the full edit ships with COD, free delivery over ₹999 and 7-day returns — so a function that gets cancelled is a return label, not a sunk cost
